Your computer system must be provided with a CD recorder for offering support to CD rewritable discs, if you want to erase the contents of the disc and reuse it. There are certain steps to be followed if you are using Windows XP and want to erase files from a readable and writable CD.

Erasing Files from CD-RW Disc
• Step 1: Double click on the My Computer icon; this icon is found on your desktop

• Step 2: In the My Computer icon, you have to right click on the CD recording drive and then click on Open option. Windows XP will show a temporary storage area where the files are kept before they get copied to the CD.

• Step 3: Look for the “Erase this CD-RW” option available in the CD Writing Tasks pane. There will be the “Welcome to the CD Writing Wizard” dialog box displayed.

• Step 4: Now click on Next and the “Erasing the CD” dialog box will appear. Note that the progress bar will display the progress of the process.

• Step 5: After the process is complete, you will receive a message in the notification area for using the CD-RW disc.

Before you try the above mentioned steps, make sure that the CD is erasable. If you find that the problems persist, you can contact an online computer repair service for tech support.
