The .MDF extension is a disk image format which is used when a backup of the data is made on DVDs and CDs. The .MDF files function like an actual disk, and do not require you to insert the disk in the system.
For opening an .MDF file you have to be careful that it does not risk the computer network, since these files are also used for spreading dangerous programs like computer viruses, spywares and malwares.

•Tip 1: You have to download one of the .MDF file openers, like MagicISO, Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120%, and IsoBuster. There are trial versions and free software downloads for you to use.

•Tip 2: After downloading, install the .MDF file opener. It will also be advisable to disable the option of having the .MDF file opener in your tool bar.

•Tip 3: Now go to .MDF file and click on open in the File dialog box. The .MDF file opener will be loading the appropriate disk image. The software also asks your confirmation on the file that you want to convert.

•Tip 4: You may also try dragging the .MDF file in the application window for opening the file.

•Tip 5: In case there are a number of files in a single folder, the files can be extracted for future use. Just right click on the folder containing the files and from the menu that pops up click on ‘Extract’.

•Tip 6: A file can also be copied with .MDF file opener. Drag the folder and drop it in the .MDF file opener for copying the desired files.

•Tip 7: Go to ‘Add File’ option in the File menu and select the file that you want to add. You may now click on ‘Open’ for returning to the original menu.

If you still have problems in opening an .MDF file, you may contact a computer repair provider for assistance.
